As far as I know, the only Android phones actually on the market in the US right now are the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream), and the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G (HTC Magic) and possibly the HTC Hero. Of these, only the G1 has a keyboard.

There are a whole bunch of Android phones released in Europe and Asia or under development in the US, but getting honest release dates or picking out the serious ones from the vaporware is rather difficult.

I'd say from my personal experience that the G1 is an excellent phone, with the single drawback that its battery life is at about the minimum acceptable level.

Thanks. And--I heard they were going to stop supporting the G1 soon.

Well there's also the question of how you define "here". If your local GSM provider's network uses the right frequencies in your area for a non-locked phone from another region, you have more options than if you're looking exclusively at carrier sold phones.

For hardware specific search, pdadb.net is the best I've found. It doesn't have as much as others in terms of specific software support (e.g.: what desktop PIM managers it will synch with, what format files it will open/edit/play), nor will it help directly with which carriers are supported, but it will give frequencies, network type and WiFi adaptor specs.

P.S.: sympathies on the tornado damage, etc... been sort of head down for a bit here.

Hmm, sounds a little too technical for me, knowing as little about cell phones as I do, but thanks for the link.

And I totally understand. What with one thing and another, I'm way behind myself.

Keep an eye out on the news tomorrow. Motorola is going to announce possibly 2 android phones, both with keyboards. There's the Morrison (which will probably go to T-Mobile) and the Sholes (most likely Verizon)
