It may have been Postscript to the Name of the Rose (by Eco, of course), which I haven't read. I like his How to Travel With a Salmon (a book of essays) very much, and Foucault's Pendulum was an awesome read in an entirely different way. (It has something in common with The Illuminatus! Trilogy, though the style is very different.) I'd have liked The Name of the Rose much better if someone hadn't spoiled it for me. grrrr.
